VIÐ ERUM VEÐRIÐ / WE ARE THE WEATHER

Við erum veðrið er nýtt verk eftir danshöfundinn Báru Sigfúsdóttur fyrir Íslenska dansflokkinn.

Verkið rannsakar þau ósýnilegu öfl sem tengja okkur saman, á milli líkama og huga og á milli innri og ytri vitundar. Í verkum sínum hefur Bára um árabil rannsakað samband manns og náttúru. Að þessu sinni beinist sjónum inn á við og að því hvernig tengsl okkar hvert við annað móta okkar innra landslag.

Á sviðinu ferðast hópur dansara og fjölmennur kór saman um síbreytileg ástand nálægðar, fjarlægðar og sameiginlegs takts. Þau standa af sér veðrin saman, eða verða jafnvel veðrið sjálft. Raddir og líkamar fléttast saman og móta hvert annað í sífellu. Líkt og veður sem fer yfir landslag skilur hver viðureign eftir sig ummerki. Saman verða þau hvert öðru skjól, næring og jarðvegur.

Sviðsmyndin umbreytist og máist smám saman í gegnum verkið og endurspeglar þannig viðkvæmt og síkvikt eðli tengsla.

Við erum veðrið býður áhorfendum að velta fyrir sér hvernig við höfum áhrif hvert á annað og hvernig við, í sameiningu, verðum að því veðri sem við búum við.

We Are the Weather is a new creation by choreographer Bára Sigfúsdóttir for Iceland Dance Company.

The work explores the invisible forces that bind us, between bodies, between minds, and between inner and outer consciousness. Building on Bára’s ongoing exploration of the relationship between humans and nature, the piece turns inward, examining how human connection shapes our mental landscapes.

On stage, a group of dancers and a full-scale choir move through shifting states of closeness, distance, and collective rhythm, weathering the space together. Voices and bodies intertwine, continually reshaping one another. Like weather moving across a landscape, each encounter leaves a trace. Together, they become each other’s shelter, nourishment, and terrain. The set transforms and erodes over the course of the performance, reflecting the fragile and dynamic nature of connection.

We Are the Weather invites reflection on how we affect one another and how, together, we become the climate we inhabit.

BIO

Bára Sigfúsdóttir er íslenskur danshöfundur og dansari með aðsetur í Noregi. Hún nam samtímadans við Listaháskóla Íslands, Amsterdam School of the Arts og P.A.R.T.S. í Brussel, þar sem hún lagði áherslu á hreyfirannsóknir, spunavinnu og danssmíðar. Verk hennar hafa verið sýnd víða um Evrópu á hátíðum og sviðum á borð við ICE HOT, Tanzmesse, Performatik og Julidans.

Í verkum sínum vinnur Bára með marglaga hreyfiefni sem þróast út frá spuna, takti og nákvæmri vinnu með einstaka líkamshluta. Hún hefur um árabil fjallað um tengsl mannsins við náttúru, samfélag og umhverfi sitt og leitast við að skapa verk sem eru bæði myndræn, aðgengileg og hugsandi.

Meðal þekktustu verka hennar eru The Lover, TIDE, being og FLÆÐI. Árið 2019 hlaut hún bæði verðlaun sem danshöfundur ársins og dansari ársins á Grímunni fyrir verk sitt The Lover.

BIOBára Sigfúsdóttir is an Icelandic choreographer and dancer based in Norway. She studied contemporary dance at the Iceland University of the Arts, the Amsterdam School of the Arts, and P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels, where she focused on movement research, improvisation, and choreography. Her works have been presented extensively across Europe at festivals and venues including ICE HOT, Tanzmesse, Performatik, and Julidans. Bára's choreographic practice is rooted in improvisation and the creation of multilayered movement material shaped by rhythm, musicality, and detailed work with the body. Recurring themes in her work include the relationship between the individual, society, and nature, explored through a direct yet poetic dialogue with audiences. Her acclaimed works include The Lover, TIDE, being, and FLÆÐI. In 2019, she received the Icelandic Performing Arts Award (Gríman) for both Choreographer of the Year and Dancer of the Year for The Lover.
