Árstíðir - Sólmyrkvi
This year, a total solar eclipse will be visible in West Iceland, with totality occurring at around 5:45pm on August 12. It will be the first total solar eclipse seen in Iceland since 1433 — nearly six centuries ago — and the next one won’t take place until 2196.
For centuries, eclipses have held a mythical place in folklore, ritual, and music. To mark this rare and momentous event, Árstíðir will be performing a special eclipse concert in Reykjavík on the night before, August 11.
Sólmyrkvi is the Icelandic word for solar eclipse, and the concert will take place in our beloved Fríkirkjan, in the heart of Reykjavík. Expect a contemplative evening drawing on ancient Icelandic traditions, as we gather on the threshold between light and darkness.
