Anton Bruckner's symphonies have impressed audiences at Iceland Symphony Orchestra concerts throughout the years. Anton Bruckner's Fifth Symphony is no exception. This impressive symphony occupies a rather special place in Bruckner's oeuvre. It is a rather introspective work, beginning with a slow introduction but gradually rising into a magnificent interplay of tones and colours, reaching a climax in the magnificent final movement.
The music of Icelandic-German composer Steingrímur Rohloff has attracted a lot of attention in recent years, and his works have been performed around the world. In recent years, he has focused on solo concerts for world-class soloists. At this concert we will hear the Icelandic premiere of a concerto for horn and orchestra, which was composed at the request of Stefan Dohr, principal horn player of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. The concerto premiered in May last year in Aalborg and was received with great acclaim from the audience, with critics calling it "a masterpiece that will be heard again and again." The concert's conductor is Eva Ollikainen, principal conductor of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra from 2020 to 2026.
