Bassist Freysteinn Gíslason Quartet presents the new album Thoughts, released by Protomaterial Records on February 20th. For many years, Freysteinn has been known for following his own path in music, creating works shaped by a deeply personal and sincere approach. On Thoughts, he continues this journey with even greater openness, allowing space and freedom to guide the music forward. The album is characterized by a poetic sensibility, where the compositions are given room to breathe and unfold organically. Freysteinn opens up the form, allowing contrasting moods to coexist — the beautiful, the strange, and the unresolved — without imposing clear boundaries. The result is music that is both fragile and powerful, intimate yet expansive. Thoughts is a reflection on the inner human landscape: thoughts, contradictions, and moments that shape who we are. The quartet approaches the material through sensitive collaboration, with deep listening and interplay at its core. The album invites listeners into a world where time slows down and the music is allowed to speak on its own terms.
