In this concert, voice, guitar, and bass will be used to pay tribute to selected songs from the films of Pedro Almodóvar.
The cinematic world of the Spanish director Almodóvar is rich in music and color, filled with melodramatic and often humorous scenes. The leading roles are frequently strong female characters, often marginalized within society, whose stories are told with insight and compassion, strongly influenced by Spanish culture, pop culture, and kitsch aesthetics.
Music plays a central role in Almodóvar’s films, and this concert invites the audience on a journey into the sonic world of his cinema.
Ástrún Friðbjörnsdóttir is a singer and songwriter. She has performed a wide range of music, including a great deal of Spanish music and flamenco, and has recently been releasing her own original work. In spring 2023, she released the single Sandkorn, with guitarist Ívar Símonarson responsible for the guitar arrangements and accompaniment. Ívar has focused on flamenco guitar and has attended various related courses in Spain.
Leifur Gunnarsson is an electric and double bass player as well as a songwriter. He has been involved in many musical projects and released the Christmas album Jólaboð hjá tengdó last Christmas.
