The second evening of the State of the Art music festival will take place at the Icelandic Air Rescue Team headquarters in Reykjavík (Flugbjörgunarsveitin í Reykjavík), where Tríó Sól will perform alongside Halldór Eldjárn.
Tríó Sól began their collaboration in Copenhagen in 2020, where violinists Emma Garðarsdóttir and Sólrún Ylfa Ingimarsdóttir were studying music along with violist Þórhildur Magnúsdóttir. They are an unconventional chamber group that focuses on folk and contemporary music. Since the repertoire for this particular instrumentation is rather limited, the group has become a platform for new compositions—often through experimental collaborations with composers from various countries. The trio has also attracted attention for its creative stage presence, incorporating elements like stomping, bow movements, singing, spoken word, and more into their performances.
At the concert, the trio will premiere works by Halldór Eldjárn and Svetlana Veschagina, along with other recent pieces composed specifically for them. Halldór Eldjárn is a composer and artist who works at the intersection of music and technology. He has created works that blend soundscapes, science, and programming—from symphonic compositions to data-driven music. In his piece for this concert, the composer himself will join the trio on stage, performing on synthesizer and found sounds. The work is based on the physical properties of the sun in our solar system. The northern lights are a direct consequence of solar flares, where magnetized particles interact with Earth’s ionosphere. The result is a visual spectacle like no other, and the movements of the aurora are interpreted through the bowing motions of the string players, using graphic notation.
The concert will take place on October 8 at the Icelandic Air Rescue Team headquarters in Reykjavík, located on Flugvallarvegur, and begins at 8 PM. Tickets are available at
