About the Trio

Formed in 2021, the Andrés Þór Trio brings together three deeply expressive musicians from across Europe: Icelandic guitarist Andrés Þór, French bassist Nico Moreaux, and Icelandic drummer Magnús Trygvason Elíassen. Rooted in the jazz tradition but unafraid of space and silence, their music is shaped by strong melodic sensibility, lyrical improvisation, and close interplay.

The trio released their debut album Hereby on the Norwegian label Losen Records in 2022 to critical acclaim. Featuring nine original compositions by Andrés, the record explores the conversational possibilities of the guitar trio format—balancing spacious Nordic atmospheres with rhythmic drive and harmonic depth. A follow-up album is slated for release on Losen Records in late 2025 or early 2026.

Each member brings a distinct voice: Andrés with his warm tone and elegant phrasing;Nico, a Paris-based bassist known for his poetic writing and collaborations with Tigran Hamasyan and Jorge Rossy;and Magnús, one of Iceland’s most versatile drummers, widely active in the Nordic scene and a member of acclaimed bands such as ADHD, Moses Hightower, and múm.
