Composer, pianist, and vocalist Sigurdís is coming home to premiere her European trio.

She has resided in Denmark since 2018 and completed her master’s degree in jazz composition and piano at the Danish National Academy of Music. The members of her trio are Polish bassist Mariusz Prasniewski, one of the most sought- after musicians on the Danish jazz scene, and Hungarian drummer Peter Horvath, known for his lyrical and sensitive playing. The concert program features original compositions by Sigurdís — music shaped by her Icelandic roots. Her sound has been described as minimalist and melancholic, marked by clear melodies and a distinct Nordic tone.

The trio also performs songs by her great-uncle, Jónas Tryggvason (1916–1983), who, like Sigurdís, was from Northwest Iceland. His music lives on in the male choir tradition of the region, but is now reimagined through the trio’s intimate and improvisational lens.

Sigurdís Sandra Tryggvadóttir, piano

Mariusz Prasniewski, bass

Peter Horvath, drums
