Waves: Film screening honoring the memory of Ásgeir H Ingólfsson
Ásgeir H. Ingólfsson was a unique cultural critic, and his contribution to the Icelandic film discourse and cultural discourse in general had few counterparts. Ásgeir was a critic, a journalist, a poet, a literary scholar, and maintained the cultural blog Menningarsmygl from Prague, where he resided. Ásgeir was a regular at cinemas and film festivals, but he passed away suddenly after a brief illness last January. A special fundraising screening of the Czech film Waves by Jirí Mádl will be held on Sunday, April 6th, at 2:30 PM, with all proceeds from ticket sales going to a fund dedicated to Ásgeir's life work.
"We need to smuggle words, thoughts, and culture across borders, between souls, among us. Between us and others, whoever they may be. We need to talk to each other, write to each other, and whisper to each other." Ásgeir H. Ingólfsson."
About the Film:
The film is the story of two brothers whose cinematic fate intersects with real events surrounding a group of correspondents of the international editorial office of Czechoslovak Radio in the period 1967-1968. The prototypes for the film characters were real members of the then Editorial Board of International Life, headed by Milan Weiner.
All ticket sale proceeds go to the Ásgeir Ingólfsson Memorial Fund.
