HG Quartet, led by saxophonist Haukur Gröndal, will perform as part of the Múlinn Jazz Club concert series. Joining Haukur in the quartet are Ásgeir Ásgeirsson on guitar, Birgir Steinn Theódórsson on bass, and Einar Valur Scheving on drums. The music draws inspiration from the golden age of jazz, as well as the sound and style of musicians such as Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Stan Getz and Zoot Sims. The repertoire consists of many of Haukur’s favourite tunes, specially arranged with this new quartet in mind. Great songs are given room to shine, with the interplay between the musicians at the heart of the performance. Although all four musicians are well known for their own projects and collaborations, this particular line-up has not performed together extensively before. This gives the concerts a special character – a shared jazz tradition meeting the interplay and spontaneous flow of the moment. Haukur’s arrangements are rooted in the tradition of classic jazz, while giving each musician the freedom to shape the music with their own individual voice. Audiences can expect an evening where melody, swing, improvisation and interplay take centre stage. Classic jazz tradition with four of Iceland’s leading jazz musicians.
