Orphei Dränger Karlakór tónleikar

Founded in Uppsala in 1853, the male-voice choir Orphei Drängar is today widely regarded as one of the world’s leading ensembles in its genre. The choir consists of around onehundred singers and has been led since 2008 by conductor and professor Cecilia Rydinger.

While OD is rooted in the classical Nordic male choir tradition, it actively works to renew its repertoire by regularly commissioning pieces from contemporary composers. The choir is renowned for its distinctive vocal sound, which spans from powerful dynamics to sheer, delicate precision.

Based in Sweden, the choir frequently tours internationally and has collaborated with numerous leading soloists, conductors, and orchestras over the years. In August 2026 OD cooperates with the Swedish Radio Orchestra and conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen at the Baltic Sea Festival in Stockholm, in the epos Kullervo by Jean Sibelius.

For the concert in Iceland, Orphei Drängar will present a program that combines traditional Nordic choral music with modern works.”
