Organ Summer at Hallgrímskirkja – Tobias Frank (Sankt Lukas, Munich, Germany )

Tobias Frank is Director of Music and Organist at the Lutheran Cathedral St. Lukas in Munich, where he has led the church music program since 2015.
He studied church music, concert organ, music education, and elementary music education at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich, followed by further studies in Anglican church music and organ in England. From 2008 to 2015, he served as Director of Music at St. Johannis Church in Neubrandenburg, Northern Germany, and was artistic director of the International Organ Festival held there.

Tobias Frank regularly performs organ concerts in major churches and cathedrals both in Germany and abroad, including Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, Dresden’s Frauenkirche and Berlin Cathedral. His CD recordings for the Hänssler ProfilEdition and Rondeau Production labels have received unanimous acclaim from the international music press.

In 2021, to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of French composer Marcel Dupré, he initiated and produced the multi-part international documentary series Dupré Digital (www.dupre-digital.org), featuring musicians and interviewees from around the world.

Through special concert formats, Tobias Frank aims to engage children and young adults and introduce them to the great works of church music (such as Brahms’s German Requiem and Bach’s St. John Passion). His series The Organ Tells Stories is designed to share the fascination of the organ with young listeners.
His activities also include radio productions and work as an arranger and editor for various publishers.
