The 217th Birthday Celebration of Frédéric Chopin — A Grand Piano Recital
One of Poland’s leading concert pianists Grzegorz (Greg) Niemczuk makes his Reykjavík debut with “Chopin’s Birthday” — a special recital presented as part of a major European concert tour (also presented in Paris, London, Warsaw, Helsinki, Prague, Vienna, Budapest).
Greg Niemczuk is pianist with extraordinary charisma. Hailed by influential Japanese critics as the "modern incarnation of Chopin," he has built an international name for himself as an outstanding expert and interpreter of the music of Frederic Chopin, to the study of which he has devoted many years of his artistic life. In January 2017, National Polish Radio put Greg Niemczuk's Chopin interpretations in line with such distinguished artists as Martha Argerich, Maurizio Pollini and Adam Harasiewicz. He is also a winner of the 40th National F. Chopin’s Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2010. To date, Greg has given more than 400 recitals and concerts, visiting 37 countries on 6 continent
Dedicated to the music of Fryderyk Chopin, one of the greatest composers in the history of classical music, the concert will feature some of his most beloved masterpieces, including Ballade No. 1, Scherzo No. 2, lyrical Nocturnes, heroic Polonaises and celebrated Études such as the “Revolutionary Étude” and “La Tristesse”.
More than a traditional piano recital, this concert combines music with storytelling (in English). Between performances, Grzegorz Niemczuk shares fascinating insights into Chopin’s life, the origins of the works, artistic inspirations and hidden meanings within the music. The result is an immersive and emotional experience that appeals both to seasoned classical music lovers and to audiences discovering Chopin for the first time.
