Recorder player Lucie Horsch has shot to stardom despite her young age and is now considered the leading recorder player of her generation. The BBC's prestigious music magazine described Horsch's playing as someone blessed with "fearsome virtuosity and superb technique." In this concert, we will explore the possibilities of the recorder in two different works; in Frans Brüggen's transcription of Bach's Violin Concerto for recorder and orchestra, and also in an adventurous work by Estonian composer Erkki-Sven Tüür, Whistles and Whispers from Uluru, where the birdsong of the Baltic Sea mingles with the mystery of Uluru, the reddish sandstone mountain in Australia. Barbara Hannigan, principal conductor of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, also leads the orchestra in two works from the neoclassical era: The sparkling concerto, Dumbarton Oaks, by Igor Stravinsky and the delightful Classical Symphony by Sergei Prokofiev.
