Matthías Harðarson was recently appointed Organist at Reykjavík Cathedral. Matthías began his musical studies at the age of 10, at the Music School of Vestmannaeyjar. His teachers there were Gíslína Sól Jónatansdóttir, Guðmundur H. Guðjónsson and Kittý Kovács. With Stefán Sigurjónsson as teacher he also played the saxophone. In 2016, Matthías graduated with a Church Organist diploma from the Music School of the National Church in Iceland. In 2020, he graduated from Iceland University of the Arts with a BA degree in Church Music and a Cantor diploma. His teachers there were Björn Steinar Sólbergsson (organ), Magnús Ragnarsson (choir conducting), Guðný Einarsdóttir, Eyþór Ingi Jónsson, and Lára Bryndís Eggertsdóttir (liturgical organ playing). Matthías has a Masters’s degree from The Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus (Denmark), where Kristian Krogsøe, Lars Rosenlund Nørremark, and Ulrik Spang-Hanssen were his teachers.  – Moreover, in 2017, Matthías graduated as a Marine Engineer.
