In the heart of Paris, a small salon becomes a hub for a new artistic movement. 27 tells the captivating love story of Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas, two women who created a home, a community, and a refuge for some of twentieth century’s greatest artists. Within these walls, Picasso, Matisse, and Hemingway gather before the world knows their names, and passion, ambition, friendship, and ideas collide—ideas that will go on to reshape the history of art.
Composer Ricky Ian Gordon and librettist Royce Vavrek weave together music, humour, and a deeply moving perspective in an accessible contemporary opera about a love that endures war, conflict, and the relentless passage of time.
This production is presented by hinÓperan, a new Icelandic opera company whose mission is to increase the visibility of LGBTQ+ people on the operatic stage. See further information here: www.hinoperan.is
