Fimmleikar is an international woodwind quintet formed by faculty artists of the I-AME Prague Music Festival. Hailing from Spain, Austria, Iceland, and the United States, the ensemble brings together a diverse blend of musical traditions, precision, and expressive collaboration. The name Fimmleikar—an Icelandic word meaning both “play of five” and “gymnastics”—captures the group’s intricate musical interplay as well as the virtuosity and agility required in chamber music.

Following several performances in Prague, the group makes its international debut outside of the Czech Republic with a 2026 concert in Iceland. With a repertoire that ranges from classical to contemporary and culturally inspired works, Fimmleikar celebrates the shared artistry and global vision of its members, with an emphasis on the Austrian-Icelandic musical connection.

The program will include Six Icelandic Songs for wind quintet by the Austrian-Icelandic composer Páll Pampichler Pálsson, world premieres by Helmut Neumann and Carlos Perón Cano as well as works by Jón Nordal, Jenni Brandon, Amy Beach and Thomas Daniel Schlee. In celebration of the New Year the program will end with music by Johann Strauss.

Duration: approx. 90 minutes, including interval.
