The symphony orchestra of Westmont College in California is giving three concerts in Iceland in May. Entrance is free of charge but tickets need to be reserved at tix.is.

The program will prominently feature American compositions and it’s safe to say guests can expect a delightful concert. Among the music performed are works by Aaron Copland, musical-theatre composer Morton Gould, Emmy-winner Steve Heitzig and themes from Indiana Jones and Star Wars. The repertoire is joyous overall and suitable for the whole family.

The Westmont College Symphony Orchestra–comprised of 60 college students in music performance–was founded in 2006 and has earned its reputation with performances of many canonical works, with a special focus on American orchestral pieces. The band has commissioned pieces by many contemporary composers including Emma Lou Diemer, James Stephenson and Daniel Gee. The conductor is Dr. Ruth Lin, who is also the dean of the Westmont Collece music department.
