Contemporary Dance Practices
Iceland University of the Arts
Born into an unknown world where movement is the primal language, three beings emerge, bound by an invisible force – separate yet connected. They exist in a cycle of becoming – individuals and unity – questioning whether movement is an expression of agency or a function of a larger system. Movement is not a choice but a programmed response – operate within an inherent system of motion, learning through the body until movement becomes natural. As they navigate the space, their tangled bodies dissolve and reform, mirroring the constant patterns of nature and technology.
Andrea María Ólafsdóttir is a 21 year old dance artist, based in Reykjavík, Iceland. Her background is in classical ballet and graduated from Listdansskóli Íslands in 2022. Currently pursuing her BA in Contemporary Dance Practices at the Iceland University of the Arts. Andrea’s artistic research focuses on weaving together various art mediums, dance and visual arts – creating immersive experiences that mesmerize and affect. Drawn to the interplay between the organic and the surreal, she crafts worlds that feel both instinctive and dreamlike – inviting the audience to step into the space between reality and imagination.
