Víkingur and Yuja Wang: Two Pianos

Both among the brightest stars of the classical music world, pianists Víkingur Ólafsson and Yuja Wang constantly surprise audiences worldwide with their wild virtuosity, thoughtful interpretations and visionary programmes. As these unique artists join forces for the first time, this concert is a tour de force of musical imagination spanning everything from tender romanticism to new musical pyrotechnics. Among the works in the programme are Sergei Rachmaninoff’s own two-piano version of his sweeping Symphonic Dances, Schubert’s breathtakingly beautiful Fantasie for four hands and Thomas Adès’s arrangement of one of Conlon Nancarrow’s “impossible” studies for player piano, as well as an eclectic mix of brilliant works by such contemporary masters as John Adams, Arvo Pärt and Luciano Berio.

Featuring Yuja Wang’s first performance in Iceland, this concert is the first in a world tour that will take Víkingur and Yuja to some of the world’s leading concert halls, including New York’s Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie, Philharmonie de Paris, London’s Royal Festival Hall and Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles.
