The Orchestra will perform a new piano concerto by Haukur Gröndal, specially composed for pianist Davíð Þór and the ensemble. The work is built around an exciting interplay between a composed musical framework and the freedom of improvisation, allowing the music to take unexpected turns and evolve in real time. The concerto brings together a wide range of sonic colors, composed sections, and free improvisation, creating an ever-changing musical landscape where each moment can open the door to new possibilities. The musicians are given ample space to respond to one another and shape the progression of the music collectively. The concerto is therefore not simply a performance of a predetermined composition, but a living dialogue between the composer, the performers, and the music itself. On stage, energy, sensitivity, and unpredictability come together in a performance by some of the leading musicians on the Icelandic jazz scene.
