Durations in Space is a staged recital for cello and piano that explores the relationship between sound, space, and the perception of time.
Through works by Olivier Messiaen, György Kurtág, Arvo Pärt, and Morton Feldman, cellist Nina Vanhoenacker and pianist Ann-Kristin Sofroniou invite audiences into a listening experience where sound unfolds across the room and time seems to expand, contract, and dissolve. Using subtle movement and spatial reconfiguration, the performance invites audiences to listen carefully to how time and space distorts each other.
As sound travels through the space and reaches listeners from changing perspectives, familiar notions of musical continuity and duration are gently transformed.
Performers:
Ann-Kristin Sofroniou is a Cypriot-Swedish pianist, composer, and researcher whose work bridges contemporary and early music through improvisation, artistic research, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Nina Vanhoenacker is a Belgian cellist specialising in contemporary and experimental music. She performs internationally as a soloist and chamber musician and frequently collaborates across disciplines including film, dance, and visual art.
