“Elegy for Grindavík” for violin and trumpet

"Elegy for Grindavík” is a new work by Maciej Fortuna for violin and trumpet, created especially for the Reykjavík Jazz Festival, where it will receive its world premiere.

The piece is conceived as a musical reflection on memory, place, and the fragile relationship between human presence and a landscape marked by volcanic activity and evacuation. Built around the dialogue between trumpet and violin, the composition combines contemporary expression, improvisational sensitivity, and a strong emotional connection to Icelandic space and atmosphere.

Performed by Marta Gidaszewska on violin and Maciej Fortuna on trumpet, Elegy for Grindavík brings together two outstanding Polish artists in a project created specifically for this occasion. The concert will offer the audience a premiere performance of a deeply personal and site-inspired work presented in the unique context of Reykjavík Jazz Festival.

Line-up:

Marta Gidaszewska – violin

Maciej Fortuna – trumpet

The 2026 edition of the Reykjavík Jazz Festival will take place between August 25th and 30th. We invite you to enjoy six days of music, focusing on jazz and improvised music, performed by musicians from Europe and Iceland.
