Concert series dedicated to the grassroots of Icelandic music, across musical genres.

**

Harpa, in cooperation with Reykjavík Music City and the broadcasting channel Rás 2, is organizing a concert series dedicated to the grassroots of Icelandic music across musical genres.

**

The concert series is called Upprásin, and takes place in Kaldalón music hall one Tuesday evening each month in the winter of 2024–2025. The concert series is a part of the implementation of the policy of Harpa to open doors for the grassroots and young people across genres and to increase diversity. The goal is also for music lovers to be able to easily access new Icelandic music of various kinds, directly from the grassroots of the music scene, performed in the optimal facilities of the nation’s premier concert hall.

The ticket price is 2000 isk.

Juno Paul plays a mixture of electronic and rock music, and has lately become a Reykjavík grassroot phenomenon in the Icelandic music scene, particularly for his powerful and sometimes dangerous stage performance. With Juno on in the band is drummer Rósa Kristinsdóttir, but they’re recently released album “Gimp” has been very well received by listeners.

AfterpartyAngel is the angelic avant-pop project of performance- and visual artist Elísabet Birta Sveinsdóttir. Initially making music for performance work, AfterpartyAngel toes the line between the angelic agenda and earthly indulgence. Angel’s moody electronic debut EP, “Death Presence” was released in 2020, and a second EP, the alternative/trip-hop album “Keepers” was released on Heavy Knife Records in 2024, containing a few more Angel favourites, existential bodies and desires, dripping in Disney nostalgia and late night rawness.

The band sameheads has bade a good name for themselves within the icelandic grassroot music scene, bringing strong and fun new wave rock in the mix. They recently released their first LP “Tónlykt” through Heavy Knife Records to positive reception, and they describe their music as new wave-influenced rock with a dash of nonsense.
