Iceland Symphony’s beloved, annual Vienna concerts are a true New Year's celebration, their joyful programme setting the tone for the new year. The Vienna concerts have long been among the orchestra's most popular performances and something music enthusiasts don't want to miss.

This year, the concerts feature two magnificent soloists, soprano Bryndís Guðjónsdóttir and tenor Einar Dagur Jónsson, who sing arias and duets from popular operettas. In addition, elegant dancers take to the stage, performing irresistible waltzes, polkas and gallops — the signature Viennese repertoire that puts everyone in good spirits.

Soprano Bryndís Guðjónsdóttir has received numerous awards, performed at many opera houses and with various symphony orchestras, such as in Kiel, Kassel, Stuttgart, Munich, Salzburg, Prague, Rome, Vilnius, Seville and Madrid. She has previously performed with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, most recently at the orchestra's concert dedicated to the works of Anna Þorvaldsdóttir in October 2023. Her repertoire is wide-ranging, spanning many centuries. She holds both a bachelor's and master's degree with honors from the Mozarteum University Salzburg.

Born in 1996, tenor Einar Dagur Jónsson has sung roles such as that of Gastone in Latraviata under the direction of Garðar Cortes, as well as performing as a soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Rico Saccani.

He completed his singing studies at the Reykjavik Academy of Singing under the guidance of Egill Árni Pálsson and Anna Rúna Atladóttir.

Finnish conductor Ville Matvejeff, who directs the concert, has in recent years established himself as an exciting and versatile artist, performing both as a conductor, composer and pianist. Matvejeff works with symphony orchestras and operas worldwide, serving as the artistic director of the Savonlinna Opera Festival in Finland and the principal conductor of the Norrland‘s Opera Orchestra in Sweden.
