Barokkbandið Brák is a baroque ensemble formed by young Icelandic musicians with a desire to put their passion for early music into practice in their native country. During the past few years, the ensemble has garnered praise by breathing new life into the music of the baroque and renaissance with their collaborations with Icelandic and international singers, instrumentalists and dancers. Several of their recent concerts have been recorded and broadcast by the Icelandic State Radio, and critics of Iceland’s leading newspapers have praised Barokkbandið Brák for their vivacious and meticulous performances, lavishing them with four to four and a half stars. Barokkbandið Brák was nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards for Performer of the Year in 2017 and 2018, as well as Musical Event of 2018.

Pioneers of past and present time 

Barokkbandið Brák returns to Sígildir Sunnudagar with two exciting performances in the spring of 2020. This first performance is spearheaded by a premiere of a piece by Hlynur A. Vilmars, commissioned by the ensemble. The premiere is flanked by performances of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s String Symphony, Double Concerto for violin and harpsichord by Haydn and a chamber piece by Johann Friederich Fasch.
