The multi award-winning chamber music festival Reykjavík Midsummer Music will be held in Harpa for the seventh time from 20 to 23 June 2019. The festival’s founder and artistic director is pianist Víkingur Ólafsson.

This year’s programme is more exciting than ever, and the line-up of artists features some of the world’s leading classical musicians. Each concert is curated to include a thrilling mix of old and new works, highlighting unexpected connections and creating fresh a context for great music.

Among this year’s artists are baritone Florian Boesch, violinists Ilya Gringolts and Anahit Kurtikyan, violist Yura Lee and French pianists Katia and Mariella Labeque – by many considered the leading piano duo of the past 30 years, now coming to Iceland for the first time. Furthermore, composer and clarinet player Mark Simpson will be among this year’s artists, along with star cellists Leonard Elschenbroich and Jakob Koranyi and electronic composer Hans-Joachim Roedelius, by many considered the father of ambient music.
