Kings of Leon to perform in Iceland in August

Kings of Leon, one of the most popular rock bands in the world, will play in the New Laugardalshöll on Thursday August 13th in the band‘s first ever visit to Iceland.

It’s not every day that Icelanders get a chance to see such a huge band perform in Iceland and it’s been a very long time since rock fans in Iceland got a stadium show with a major foreign act.

Kings of Leon was formed in 1999 by brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill, as well as their cousin Matthew Followill. Recently the band has headlined many of the world’s biggest festivals, including Roskilde, Coachella, Glastonbury, Rock Werchter and Lollapalooza and has become well known for spectacular live performances. In addition to that they have been busy doing massive concerts on their own, including Slane Castle in Ireland and 3 sold out shows at London’s Hyde Park.

Their first full length album, Youth & Young Manhood, debuted in 2003 and experienced immediate populuarity in the UK. Aha Shake Heartbreak came out in 2004, Because of the Times was released in 2007 and became a global instant hit. The next year they released Only by the Night, which became colossaly popular, went straight to number one on the UK charts and brought them two BRIT-awards: “The Best International Band” and “The Best International Album” and their fan base exploded. The albums Come Around Sundown and Mechanical Bull came out in 2010 and 2013 respectively, entering the UK, European & Australian charts at Number One to great acclaim from fans and critics alike.

In 2010 Kings of Leon took home the Grammy Award for “Record of the Year”, “Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal” and “Best Rock Song” for Use Somebody. That song has become a current classic and pretty much everybody knows by heart other huge hits such as Sex on Fire, Closer, Supersoaker, Fans and Radioactive. Recent set lists have included hits and Live anthems from all 6 of the band’s Albums’.

Kings of Leon are renowned for doing amazing live shows so it is clear that Iceland is in for an unforgettable event on August 13th.
