Daniel Rode on his work:
"I am a conceptual artist and work primarily with drawings and installations. One focus is on works in public space, often monumental. I use short texts, sometimes just fragments of text. I try to hinder quick reading by disregarding the basic rules of word division and correct line breaks and omitting punctuation. In this way, the letters remain mere image for a moment before they can be read and understood. And even then, the artworks remain enigmatic and closed, the texts often make no direct sense in their monumentality on the spot. The gap between viewer and work persists and the art eludes quick comprehension. And yet the works assert a universal validity and are extremely open and interpretable."
Daniel Rode was born in 1971 in Eutin, northern Germany, and studied in Greifswald and Dresden. Exhibitions and projects have taken him to the United Arab Emirates, Korea, Bahrain, Vietnam, the USA, Canada and many European countries. From 2009 to 2014, the artist lived in Cairo, Egypt. Today he lives and works in Dresden and Berlin.
