Guitarist
and composer Mikael Máni celebrates the release of his second solo album,
“Nostalgia Machine”, with a concert on the 13th of August in Harpa.
For this concert the music of Mikael Máni has been arranged for an
unconventional 5-piece jazz combo and a string quartet. The members of the band
come from vastly different musical backgrounds; jazz, pop, classical,
contemporary and experimental music, complimenting the compositions, which
blend together different genres of music.
The program includes music from Mikael Máni’s forthcoming album “Nostalgia
Machine”, as well as music from his first solo album, “Bobby”, which received
great reviews all over Europe. Mikael has been developing his own musical style
within jazz that falls under the category of chamber-jazz. The audience will
have the opportunity to experience the music with an extended sound-sculpture
made of strings, but those arrangements were especially made for this concert
and are not on the albums.
The band consists of 10 performers:
-Mikael Máni Ásmundsson: Electric guitar and electronics
-Lilja María Ásmundsdóttir: Metallophone, piano, electronics and keyboards
-Ingibjörg Elsa Turchi: Electric bass
-Sölvi Kolbeinsson: Alto saxophone and clarinet
