Harpa

Event info

Come March 27th at 8 pm, Ingibjörg Elsa Turchi will perform a concert in Kaldalón hall in Harpa with her band. The program will include music from her 2017 album “Wood/Work”, released on SMIT records, as well as new and unreleased material. In the spring she will release a new record that the band recorded in September 2019. Ingibjörg has been a mainstay of the Iceland music scene for years, performing with many of the nation’s most beloved musicians, such as Emiliana Torrini, Bubbi Morthens, Teitur Magnússon and Stuðmenn, just to name a few. Alongside her session work, Ingibjörg also performs regularly under her own name, where she explores the possibilities of the electric bass, her main instrument. Ingibjörg’s music presents a blend of the electronic and the acoustic. Through repetition, Ingibjörg and her band create unique and hypnotic soundscapes, juxtaposed with tuneful bass melodies. As such, her music is an attempt to expand the boundaries of what the electric bass is capable of.

Ingibjörg’s band is: Ingibjörg Elsa Turchi - Electric bass Tumi Árnason - Saxophone Magnús Trygvason Eliassen - Drums Hróðmar Sigurðsson - Guitar Magnús Jóhann Ragnarsson - Piano

Reviews: “The music itself is terrific . . . minimalistic bass playing coalescing into rhythmic motifs and loops. The sound is processed and notes and scales are cleverly woven together . . . very listenable piece of music” Arnar Eggert Thoroddssen on “Wood/Work”

“Ingibjörg Turchi’s virtuosic ensemble played a set of warm, charming instrumental music that hovered between jazz, post-rock, formal composition and improvisation.” John Rogers, The Reykjavík Grapevine
