The Sígildir Sunnudagar series presents a concert of popular Icelandic songs, performed and arranged by a distinguished group of musicians who have all been active in Reykjavik´s musiclife in recent years. Ragnheiður “Ragga” Gröndal sings, accompanied by members of Trio Nordica, pianist Mona Kontra, violinist Auður Hafsteinsdóttir and cellist Bryndis Halla Gylfadóttir.

Ragnheiður has enhanced the Icelandic music scene for quite some years, and won the hearts of many an Icelandic music lover with her beautiful voice and unique character. She has released four albums: Ragnheiður Gröndal in 2003, Vetrarljóð in 2004, After the Rain in 2005 and Þjóðlög in 2006. She has also sumg on albums for Jón Ólafsson, her brother Haukur Gröndal and the band Ske. Ragnheiður is a winner of the Icelandic Music Awards, for both best album and singer of the year in 2004.

Trio Nordica was founded in 1993 by Auður Hafsteinsdóttir, Bryndís Halla Gylfadóttir and Mona Kontra. The trio has performed extensively both in Iceland and abroad and has a well earned reputation as a dynamic and vibrant group of musicians. In addition to performing the most reputed classical piano trios the group has in its repertoire more obscure Nordic trios, modern works and is also keen on shedding light on trios not often heard, written by female composers. The trio has recorded several CD´s, one of which comprises music by Elfrida Andrée.

Þórður Magnússon has established himself as one of Iceland´s most proficient composers as well as being a sought after arranger. He has received numerous prizes and scholarships and was in 2004 nominated for the Nordic Music Awards. The same year his first symphony earned him the prize “Composition of the Year” at the Iclandic Music Awards.
