Kristinn Sigmundsson, one of Iceland's most beloved singers of all time, is at the height of his career. Kristinn has sung at many of the most famous opera houses in the world, including La Scala in Milan, the Vienna Opera, the Paris Opera, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and the San Francisco Opera. He has also been recorded with foreign orchestras in a number of operas and other works, including The Magic Flute and Don Giovanni with the Drottningholm Opera, JS Bach's St. Matthew Passion and St. John Passion with the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, and The Barber of Seville with the Munich Radio Orchestra.

His recent projects include John Corigliano's The Ghosts of Versailles, The Marriage of Figaro, and The Barber of Seville with the Los Angeles Opera.

Last autumn, Kristinn sang with the Icelandic Opera after a twelve-year hiatus, in a memorable performance of one of the most demanding bass roles in opera history: King Philip II, father of Don Carlos, in Verdi's opera of the same name.

At this year's season opener, Kristinn sings arias from several of his favourite operas. Among the roles he sings on this programme are Don Basilio in Rossini's Barber of Seville, the Count in Mozart's Marriage of Figaro, Banquo in Verdi's Macbeth, and Zacharias in Verdi's Nabucco.

The Reykjavík Opera Choir appears with Kristinn at the evening's performance, which is conducted by Rico Saccani, a renowned interpreter of opera and a former Principal Conductor of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
