For years, the Iceland Symphony's New Years Concert concerts have been among its most popular and best-attended.

This first concert of the new calendar year features a stunning array of Johann Strauss' most appealing works, beginning with the overture to Die Fledermaus and ending with The Blue Danube. The rest of the programme of includes a variety of lovely waltzes, marches, and polkas, not to mention the ever-popular Viennese lieder, arias, and duets.

Soprano Guðrún Ingimarsdóttir has lived in Germany in recent years and has sung in concert halls and opera houses around the world. Operetta performances have been prominent on her schedule: she has sung at over 100 operetta concerts in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and has toured with descendents of the Strauss family. Tenor Elmar Gilbertsson came, saw, and conquered as Daði Halldórsson in Gunnar Þórðarson's opera Ragnheiður, receiving both a Gríman Icelandic Theatre Award as singer of the year and the Icelandic Music Award in 2014.

Swedish conductor Ola Rudner began his career as a violinist. He served as concertmaster of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and other orchestras before focusing on conducting.
