"Reykjavik Classics New Year´s Celebration”
The Reykjavik Classics concert series in Eldborg Harpa presents a special event during the New Year entitled "Reykjavik Classics New Year´s Celebration.” These are daily concerts in Eldborg during the festive season December 27th 2016 through January 2nd 2017 and the program will be performed twice every day, at 12:30 and at 15:30. Each concert lasts 30 minutes without intermission.
The program features sublime masterworks by Johann Sebastian Bach, which have inspired generations for the past 300 years. This includes Air from the Orchestral Suite No. 3 BWV 1068, Affettuoso from the Brandenburg concerto No. 5 BWV 1050, Siciliano from flute sonata No. 2 BWV 1031, Prelude in C Major BWV 846 from the Well-Tempered Clavier Book I, Jesu, Joy of Man´s Desiring from the Cantata BWV 147 and the reflective Canon by Johann Pachelbel.
Reykjavik Classics welcomes guest artists violinist Rannveig Marta Sarc, who currently studies at the Juilliard School in New York and violist Ásta Kristín Pjetursdóttir, who studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. Rannveig Marta and Ásta Kristín have been awarded many prizes and grants for their artistry and have appeared as soloists with orchestras such as the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra and the Reykjavik College of Music String Ensemble. They have also performed in international music festivals such as the Heifetz Institute, the Sarasota Music Festival and the International Music Academy at Harpa. Other performing artists at the Reykjavik Classics New Year´s Celebration include flutist Áshildur Haraldsdóttir and pianist and artistic director Nína Margrét Grímsdóttir.
The Reykjavik Classics Concert Series premiered in summer 2016 in Harpa and received excellent reviews. Numerous concerts were featured where the focus was on the masterworks of the classical composers performed by artists of the highest caliber. The audience experience of the excellent acoustics of Eldborg has been claimed as “Highly recommended!” and accompanied by a five star rating on Trip Advisor.
