Siggi String Quartet was formed in 2012 . We are all members of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and we share the passion for string quartet playing. We have performed quartets by Haydn, Beethoven, Prokofiev and Shostakovich besides premiering quartets by the Icelandic composers Haukur Tómasson, Atli Heimir Sveinsson and Una Sveinbjarnardóttir.

Siggi String Quartet has premiered quartets by Giacinto Scelsi and Naomi Pinnock in Iceland in addition to promoting new quartets by numerous young Scandinavian composers.

Siggi String Quartet is in collaboration with the Errata Collective. The Errata Collective is a group of five composers; Haukur Þór Harðarson, Halldór Smárason, Bára Gísladóttir, Finnur Karlsson and Petter Ekman. Siggi String Quartet will be performing pieces by all of them during the 2016-2017 season, but in this particular concert you will hear newly composed string quartets by Finnur Karlsson and Haukur Harðarson. Atli Heimir Sveinsson contributes another new Icelandic piece to the program with his third string quartet (premiere). In addition Siggi String Quartet will be performing Penderecki´s first string quartet and two pieces from “The Art of Fugue” by J.S.Bach.
