Arctic Art in Iceland
The Artic Art exhibition and show demonstrates the achievements of native nations in the Arctic and their cultures through their work. It is an opportunity to learn more about indigenous culture and art and a forum for other artists who have been inspired by Arctic nature and culture.
The show features some of the most prominent artists of the present including Zarina Olox Kopyrina known for her unique voice and stage presence, Spiridon Shishigina playing the Khomus or "mouth harp" the instrument that connects indigenous cultures around the Arctic, Anisiia Fedorova folk singer from Yakutia and Ruben Anton Komangapik from Nunavut Canada tells stories spiced with songs and drumming.
Sunday evening the 9th of October there will be an open venue at the 2nd flour of Harpa an exhibition for anyone who is interested in the art and culture of indigenous peoples in the Arctic regions. The exhibition will feature artist workshops, photography, indigenous performers and movie screenings, as well as, the opportunity to purchase artwork directly from the artists.
