Bowie – The Session by the world famous Gavin Evans opens in Esja, new exhibition area at Harpa, Friday 18 March. The British, Berlin based photographer Gavin Evans is renowned for his uncompromising take on portraiture. A roll call of luminaries including Juliette Binoche, Daniel Craig, Dusty Springfield, Morrissey, Nick Cave, Iggy Pop, Ozzy Osbourne, Björk and Terry Gilliam have braved his lens. Evans has been commissioned by many of the worlds leading publications including The New York Times and The Sunday Times magazine. The Session is a touching and intimate exposé of the man behind the legend. Images from the acclaimed shoot have been displayed on covers of magazines and newspapers worldwide since the original commission in 1995 by Time Out magazine.

What distinguishes Evans’ remarkable photographs is a unique connection between artist and photographer. Of all the photographs taken of David Bowie, one of Evans’ became Bowie’s personal all time favourite. The Session marks the opening of Evans’ The Institute- a new contemporary gallery and arts space in Berlin’s Holzmarkt. The exhibition will run simultaneously throughout March at three separate venues in 3 different countries; The Institute Berlin, Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre Reykjavik and the A-Galerie Paris as part of a major Bowie group exhibition. The Session is scheduled to tour globally 2016. The artist Ingvar Björn has worked with Evans in Berlin and the result of their collaboration will be reveiled at the exhibit.
