Cantica Collegium Musicum was founded in 1991 and has been under the artistic direction of Štefan Sedlický since 1994. The choir has presented the city of Martin and Slovakia with impressive success both at home and abroad, including concerts in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands, where it also sang for Queen Beatrix. It has performed in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and in the audience of Pope Benedict XVI and has participated in numerous international music festivals. In collaboration with renowned Slovak orchestras, the choir has performed major works by Mozart, Bach, Handel, Dvorák, Charpentier and other composers.
Štefan Sedlický (1963) studied piano and choral conducting in Žilina and Bratislava. He has conducted numerous prestigious Slovak choirs and received the highest international awards across Europe, South Africa, Vietnam and New Zealand. Since 2008, he has been a professor of choral conducting at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica, working with leading orchestras and music festivals at home and abroad. A three-time winner of the Best Conducting Award, he is known for his artistry, international success and premieres of works by Slovak composers.
The choir performs an a cappella repertoire that combines religious and secular music by both Slovak and internationally renowned composers from different periods. The choir has received numerous awards, including prizes and gold medals at international choral competitions both in Europe (Sweden, Germany, Austria, Romania, etc.) and around the world (New Zealand, Vietnam, Thailand, South Africa).
