Sólveig Steinþórsdóttir was born in Reykjavík in 1995 and began studying violin at the age of three at the Allegro Suzuki Music School under the guidance of Lilja Hjaltadóttir and later studied with Guðný Guðmundsdóttir at the Reykjavík School of Music. She completed her bachelor's degree from the Berlin Academy of the Arts in 2019 and her master's degree from the Zurich Academy of the Arts in 2021. She has performed solo and chamber music in Iceland, Germany, Switzerland and Italy and has performed at various festivals, including the Bodensee Festival, the Festival alte Musik Zürich and the Music Festival of the Young, and in concert series in Iceland. She has also played as a baroque violinist with various groups, e.g. the Baroque Band Brák, the Zürcher Barockorchester, the Akademie für alte Musik Berlin and the J. S. Bach Stiftung St. Gallen. In June 2023, the Dutch label Challenge Classics released a recording of her performance of Ysaÿe's violin sonatas.
