Future Forecast consists of seven brand new compositions, originally based on a profound reflection of how the music of the future might sound, if it deviates from predictable forms, verses and soundscapes, exploring new dimensions instead. The approach takes its cue from interesting coincidences and influences as well as the search for novelty. A process that began with a blank slate in Skagafjörður developed through a creative oscillation at Flóki Studios where an unusual lineup and the collective deep breath of the musicians proved fruitful. The result can be heard in the seven opuses that will be played live to an audience for the first time at Reykjavík Arts Festival.

The performers include many of Iceland’s foremost musicians who have made their mark in a wider international context, as well as special guests from overseas. Peter Erskine has had a stellar career with Weather Report, Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell and others. Matthew Garrison is one of the world’s leading bass players and US saxophone player Phil Doyle is long established as one of the pre-eminent musicians working in Iceland. Along with the cycle Future Forecast, some of the best-known works of the Jack Magnet Science team will be featured at the concert.
