The Einar Scheving Quartet – 19:30

The Einar Scheving Quartet has been one of Iceland’s foremost jazz bands since its inception in 2006, when they recorded their first album, Cycles. The quartet released their fourth album, Mi Casa, Su Casa, last year and for that, Einar was awarded at the Icelandic Music Awards as Jazz Composer of the Year . The quartet comprises some of the country’s leading musicians. Besides Einar, who plays drums and percussion, the members are bassist Skúli Sverrisson, pianist Eyþór Gunnarsson, and saxophonist Óskar Guðjónsson. The program for the evening will consist of material from the band’s four albums.

Agnar Már Magnússon Trio – Release concert for the album ‘Mór’. at 20:45

Pianist Agnar Már Magnússon covers the Icelandic musician heritage, mixed with original music. The trio also includes Agnar, Valdimar Kolbeinn Sigurjónsson on Kontrabassa and Matthías Hemstock on drums. Then also plays with a quartet of horn players.

The trio has been collaborating intermittently since 2007, when Agnar released a CD, Láð which was well recieved and has been in demand ever since. There Agnar used national themes and rhymes to make new music. Here, this idea is continued and taken further. Icelandic folk songs and rhyme music are quite a treasure and from them new and progressive ideas can be derived.

Kristjana Stefáns Quintet – 22:00

The Quintet of the Icelandic Jazzsinger Kristjana Stefáns will play their favorite tunes in fresh arrangments. The songs vary from the Beatles to standards of Billy Strayhorn and orginal tunes.
