EKKI MINNA Duo is a Copenhagen based accordion+cello duo who perform new Nordic music. For their concert at Dark Music Days, Jónas (IS) and Andrew (UK) will share new works by Danish composers for the duo, as well as premiering an interactive performance piece by Áslaug Rún Magnúsdóttir.
Cellist Andrew Power and accordionist Jónas Ásgeir Ásgeirsson first performed together at the Pulsar contemporary music festival in 2017, where they premiered a work of Danish composer Matias Vestergård Hansen. This was an ideal start to their collaboration, since they both share the passion of introducing audiences to exciting new music from Nordic composers and sound artists.
Andrew and Jónas both have an extensive background in new music. Andrew has played with Ulysses Ensemble, Ensemble Intercontemporain and IEMA, as well as being a recommended member of the Ulysses network. Jónas almost exclusively works with new music. He has collaborated with and premiered works by numerous composers and is the first Icelander to have performed an accordion concerto with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. He is now working on a new accordion concerto by Finnur Karlsson and recording an album of contemporary Icelandic works for the classical accordion.
EKKI MINNA Duo has, despite a young age, collaborated with a number of established composers, working with and performing pieces by Simon Steen-Andersen and Christian Winther Christensen, and premiering works by Loïc Destremau and Mads Emil Dreyer. Recently, the duo has been collaborating with Áslaug Rún Magnúsdóttir and will premiere a performance piece of hers at Dark Music Days.
