HARPA INTERNATIONAL MUSIC ACADEMY

The Harpa International Music Academy returns with its 7th annual music festival for classical music students, taking place from the 1st – 15th of August. HIMA brings together talented music students in Iceland and students and teachers from abroad. Around seventy participants from seven countries receive private lessons, masterclasses and lessons with an accompanist. They play in a chamber music group and string orchestra, and are able to perform solo and chamber works in Harpa’s world-class facilities. The faculty is comprised of a core of Iceland’s leading instrumentalists, joined by distinguished international musicians of the highest caliber. Through high-quality individual instruction and an emphasis on chamber music taught by experienced performers, HIMA promotes well-rounded musicianship and encourages the next generation of classical musicans to strive for excellence.

HIMA has several international collaborative partners, including the Atlanta Festival Academy and Point CounterPoint in the United States, the pan-Atlantic New Music for Strings, the Lin Yao Ji Foundation in China and the Menuhin International Violin Competition. Each partnership offers a valuable addition to HIMA’s program. The string orchestra will be led by Eugene Drucker, violinist of the world-famous Emerson String Quartet, who is a shared faculty member with the New Music for Strings festival.
