Can
Music Warm One’s Soul?
2017 was the year Portuguese singer Salvador Sobral sent a message to Europe
from the grand stage of the Eurovision Song Contest- “Music is a Feeling!!!”.
Not many of us knew what he was singing, but most of us certainly felt it.
It wasn’t about showing off. It wasn’t about scenography or special effects. No
political or provocative messages were on display. It was all harmony,
melody…and that “feeling”.
The Old Continent voted in unison: Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, United
Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium , Austria, Israel and
many others gave all of their 12 points to Salvador Sobral, making him the
all-time highest-scoring winner, winning both the jury and televoters.
At HARPA Salvador will present his new album Paris, Lisboa, a
multilingual exploration of the two cities inspired by a journey between them.
The album is a tribute to Wim Wenders classic film “Paris, Texas”. Sobral will
alternate between his native Portuguese, Spanish, English, and French
throughout, including a piece by the Brazilian samba-canção composer Lupicínio
Rodrigues, and another by Francisca Cortesão and Afonso Cabral.
1st of November, Sobral and his fellow musicians on stage at HARPA for the very
first time in Iceland.
We look forward!
