Maximus Musicus on Culture Night – Iceland Symphony

Bjarni Frímann Bjarnason, conductor
Valur Freyr Einarsson, master of ceremonies

This adventure featuring Maxímús Músíkús is a heartwarming story of a curious mouse who lands by accident in the middle of a symphony orchestra rehearsal. During the rehearsal, Maxi gets to know the music up close, leading the audience with him as he journeys through the magical world of orchestral sounds. The music performed at the concert comes from all directions, including Maurice Ravel’s Bolero and Sigvaldi Kaldalóns’ Á Sprengisandi. Stories about Maxi have won multiple awards and have been translated into a number of languages. The patron of the project is Vladimir Ashkenazy, Conductor Laureate of the Iceland Symphony.

Maxi is the brainchild of Iceland Symphony’s principal flautist Hallfríður Ólafsdóttir. He comes vividly to life in delightful illustrations by her orchestra colleague, violist Þórarinn Már Baldursson.

The Iceland Symphony Orchestra invites the general public to two concerts on Culture Night in Reykjavík. Admission is free. Tickets to the concerts are available at Harpa Ticket Office and on Harpa’s website from 11:00 am on concert day.
