Cave
Dogs live shadow performance, Liquid States, explores land and water as
physical substance and metaphoric allusion. This work focuses on land and
water use in its many physical states and cultural circumstances, narratives,
histories, memories and journeys. The performance forms a collective
narrative that addresses mankind’s complicated relationship to essential
natural resources.
Liquid States, consists of innovative, large-scale shadow projections cast
onto a screen from a variety of props, puppets, costumes and the human body.
Shadows move in concert with projected video, animation, spoken narrative,
and an original soundtrack. We create multiple, richly layered visual
tableaus, and produce effects that conjure both the dreamlike quality of
early experimental film and the humor of contemporary animation. It’s
magical, like watching dreams cross into the conscious world. We teach trees
to dance and whales to sing. Liquid States, is both abstract documentary and
fictionalized realism. The show weaves together imagery and sounds to create
a stimulating experience that documents, and celebrates important cultural
voices, social identities and environmental perspectives.
