Vorblót 2019: Geigen Galaxy #2
Geigen Galaxy #2 is the second concert experience by the techno violin duo GEIGEN, formed by Gígja Jónsdóttir and Pétur Eggertsson. Creating translucid concert experiences, The Geigen Galaxies, they voyage outside the galaxy with the mighty sounds of the violin morphing into waves and stardust. Transforming the space into a blackhole the audience is transported to another dimensions.
Geigen Galaxy #2 is a part of Vorblót 2019 – Tjarnarbíó and Reykjavík Dance Festival’s annual dance festival. Exploring the boundaries between dance, theatre and music the festival offers an opportunity to experience the diversity of the icelandic scene of performing arts. A festival pass offers vip access to all 8 scheduled acts as well as a 20 % discount at Tjarnarbíó’s café & bar.
GEIGEN
The techno duo GEIGEN was formed in San Fransisco in the fall 2018, where Gígja and Pétur’s paths crossed. They discovered that both of them had quit playing the violin after many years of training due to stagnated music education system. Still the violin had a big impact on their lives and they shared the interest to bring the instrument back into their creative work.
GEIGEN rebels against the classical image of the violin, it is the need to break out of traditional systems, embraces the violin and attempts to bring it into the future.
The first concert experience, Geigen Galaxy #1, took place in Mengi in January 2019.
