New album, Vernacular, featuring 4 Icelandic works played by Saeunn Thorsteinsdottir, cellist, is to be released by US label Sono Luminis on March 8th.

"Vernacular is a very personal album, a collection of three works written for me, as well as the first solo piece that I became familiar with by an Icelandic composer. The project title is a reflection not only of the fact that the composers and I share the same native language, but also refers to this current time period or zeitgeist in Icelandic music, as seen through my eyes. Although each piece is its own sonic setting, they are all intimate monologues, getting up close and personal with the textures, resonance and overtones of the cello.”

The concert will consist of the 4 works; Afterquake by Páll Ragnar Pálsson, 48 images of the moon by Þuríður Jónsdóttir, O by Halldór Smárason and Solitaire by Hafliði Hallgrímsson.
