The Only Way is Up!
In a reality brimming with news of climate change, political turmoil and other man-made disasters it becomes more clear than ever that status quo is no longer an option. And since we definitely don’t want to go down, I guess... the only way is up!

DesignTalks is a day filled with inspirational talks by international designers, architects and creative thought leaders. It is the opening event of DesignMarch, the annual Icelandic design festival. DesignTalks 2019 will portray examples of outstanding people who are actively contributing to a better future with exhilarating projects, pushing boundaries and expanding brains!

First announced speakers of DesignTalks 2019;  Snøhetta’s senior architect Kristian Edwards, has worked with ground breaking sustainability pilot projects in collaboration with the ZEB Research Centre for zero emission buildings. Ewards has been pivotal in the prizewinning architectural firm’s latest project Svart, the first building in a Northern climate that actually generates more energy than it consumes!  Lidewij Edelkoort’s close collaborator Philip Fimmano contemporary fashion and lifestyle specialist co-founded Talking Textiles with Edelkoort, an ongoing initiative to promote awareness and innovation in textiles. Philip contributes to Trend Tablet and other publications and frequently addresses the worldwide developments in sustainability and respect for the planet curating exhibitions globally. Lara Lesmes and Fredrik Hellberg founded Space Popular, a multidisciplinary design and research practice, which has completed built projects both in Asia and Europe and participated in a wide range of international competitions. They were recently shortlisted as newcomers to watch out for and their most recent project, Value in the Virtual explores how augmented reality will alter buildings, in reality and in virtual worlds.
